Common RGB (red-green-blue) Hex colors
A brief explanation about hexadecimal colors.
The following colors are in what is called RGB hexadecimal format. There are many more combinations than can be shown here. If I did my math correct there are 16,777,216 combinations. Yikes !!
Here's how it works, there are 3 hexadecimal place values for each color in the order of red-green-blue: XX-XX-XX. Each value is a combination of 2 characters, either numbers or letters or one of each. And each character, be it a number or letter, represents a "brightness" value for each color.
The higher the number the brighter (lighter), or closer to white, the color is. The lower the number the darker, or closer to black, the color is. The "even" numbered values are as follows:
FF = 255 or 100% brightness
EE = 238 or 93% brightness
DD = 221 or 87% brightness
CC = 204 or 80% brightness
BB = 187 or 73% brightness
AA = 170 or 67% brightness
99 = 153 or 60% brightness
88 = 136 or 53% brightness |
77 = 119 or 47% brightness
66 = 102 or 40% brightness
55 = 85 or 33% brightness
44 = 68 or 27% brightness
33 = 51 or 20% brightness
22 = 34 or 13% brightness
11 = 17 or 7% brightness
00 = 0 or 0% brightness |

The hexadecimal code is base 16. So the left place value is a multiple of 16 instead of 10 like most of you are used to thinking. If the number for a color is 28 the brightness value is 40. (2 x 16) + 8 = 40. The confusion for most folks is the use of letters instead of numbers for values higher than 9. But if you know the value of each letter it's fairly simple. The numbering system is as follows:

| 8 = 8 | 9 = 9 | A = 10 | B = 11

| C = 12 | D = 13 | E = 14 | F = 15 |
Instead of carrying to the "tens" place when you reach ten, you continue counting until you reach 16 then carry over into the 16's place. All numbers (or letters) in the left place, the 16's place, are simply multiples of 16 instead of multiples of ten. If the value is BC then the equivalent base ten number is 188. (11 x 16) + 12 =188. Just remember to multiply by 16 and you will be OK. I doubt that you would ever need to use this information but it certainly doesn't hurt to understand it.
